We are Trout Addicts

That's right! We are a family of fishing addicts. In fact, we created Trout Addicts as a safe space for all those who know there is no cure for the fishing itch. We wanted a way for everyone with the addiction to share stories, photos, and product reviews.

We also recently launched a Trout Addicts Store on Etsy, where you can find fisherman-designed and hand-painted gear, apparel, and original artwork. Check it out and get your fix for your next great adventure.

About Patrick Hamman

Fishing Addict & Wildlife Artist

I learned a wealth of knowledge from my father, fishing guides, old timers, and, of course, through my own trial and error. I worked as a fishing guide in Alaska for several years guiding all five species of Salmon in addition to Rainbow Trout, Char, and Grayling using trolling, spin fishing, and flyfishing tackle.

I have fished all over the country and have enjoyed floating many rivers across the west including the Madison, Snake, and Green Rivers. I have tied flies commercially and built my own lures and plugs growing up. That being said, like my father, I most enjoy teaching people how to fish. Getting people hooked on fishing is as enjoyable as catching fish myself. This especially is true for kids; I love the absolute happiness and smiles they have when they have a good day out fishing. My daughter’s first day out was full of catching stocker rainbows on her barbie fishing pole. She kept saying, “look at them dancing, it’s a trout dance party!” when they would splash and jump.

I always try to help out fellow anglers that have kids if they aren’t having much luck and I hope you will do the same. It’s a wonderful thing to get a kid hooked on fishing and so important for our sport. I was fortunate to have a father that taught me where trout like to be in rivers and lakes, their feeding habits, what depths they like to hang out, and how to always stay positive and ready to change things up if you’re not getting strikes.

I am always learning something new and reading everything I can get my hands on when it comes to fishing. I have also been blessed with some great fishing buddies that also have this affliction of being addicted to fishing. Making memories with family and my fishing buddies is priceless.

I love catching trout with all the tackle and techniques and I switch between these methods to be successful. Honestly, the key to catching trout is to adapt or change up tackle until you find what works. It's important to try new things and learn as much as possible to become a truly good fisherman. “Think like a trout,” as my dad would always say and of course you won’t catch any fish with your line out of the water or while you are sitting on the couch.
